Do you remember APS films?

A few days ago I found our old Canon Elph2 APS film camera which we used from 2001 until we bought our first digital camera, Olympus Stylus 710 in summer of 2006. The battery was dead and we were out of APS films (obviously) so I went to a camera shop in downtown today and picked up a CR2 battery and 3 rolls of APS films.

Man, I haven't seen these films in ages, and completely forgot about the cartridge status indicator symbols. Full circle for unexposed, half circle for partly exposed, cross sign for fully exposed but not processed, and square for processed.

I lost a roll of film today

Yes, as the title says I lost a roll of film today. I left the house with the roll in my pocket so I can leave it at the Shoppers drug mart to be developed. But when I left the bus, my pocket was empty. I thought maybe I left it at home, so I spent last 30 minutes searching for it but I could not find it anywhere! I think it fell out while I was on the bus or before I got on the bus. It's so sad, I'll never be able to see those pictures.

snow day

I woke up with a text from the university letting me know that the school is canceled for the morning due to snow. If you have read my previous entries, you might know that I've finished my undergrad studies as of my birthday, but for some reason I still get all those emails and texts from school.

Anyway, we had so much snow! I was just taking a photo of Dad going through snow with the snow blower, and surprisingly it shows how much snow we had really well, nearly 20cm, I believe! That's nearly 8 inches for those US readers. If you don't believe me, Dad is nearly 5.8" and snow is almost up to right below his knee.

Just a reminder, my giveaway ends tomorrow night, so if you haven't left a comment yet, do it now!

thrift shopping

These photos were taken at a local vintage shop that carries clothes from the 60s. I've read about this place in the paper, but never had a chance to go. So when I met up with my friend Ashley we decided to hit this place.

It was cool to see these old clothes, shoes, and handbags. They had tons of cowboy boots! I wanted to get a pair, but none were in my size.

These are also my first roll of Olympus XA!

giveaway, just because. - closed.

I’ll be doing a giveaway (my very first!) of a Superheadz Golden Half* and a roll of film to one lucky reader.

Golden Half is a half-frame camera, so it takes two shots within one regular 35mm frame.

* This camera is NOT new. I bought this in July 2009 and pretty much carried it in my purse all the time, so it shows some sign of wear.

I'm giving this away because I don't think I'm going to use this much more, and I hope this finds a good new home rather than sitting in my drawer collecting dust.

To have a chance to win, simply leave your name, email/blog link, and location under this post before the 18th of February 23:59 AST (Atlantic Standard Time).

A winner will be drawn randomly and announced on the 19th of February.

Spread the word!

Meet my new friend

Meet my new friend, Olympus XA + A16 flash!

I found out about this little beast just a few days ago. I came upon Flickr's Olympus XA group and learned that you could get similar, if not better, results than the Lomo for much lower price. It too gives rich, saturated colours, and vignetting just like Lomo does, with sharp focus!

Within minutes I found myself looking through ebay and kijiji to look for one. Fortunately, I was able to meet with a nice gentleman in my area who offered me this combo for $60!

So. Meet my friend, Olympus XA. Can't wait to see the result :)
